What Is ETL?

ETL Defined

ETL stands for extract, transform, and load. These are three important database functions that are combined to pull data from one database and insert or copy it into another database while enforcing data quality and consistency standards.

  • Extract is the process of reading data that has been collected from a database, or multiple data sources.
  • Transform is the process of converting the extracted data from its current form into the required form necessary for the destination database.
  • Load is the process of writing the data into its new database.

ETL is an important part of Business Intelligence (BI) tools and systems.

In Data Defined, we make the complex world of data more accessible by breaking down all aspects of the field.
