What Is A SQL Query?

SQL, or structured query language, is a domain-specific language that can be used to communicate with a database. SQL is used in programming and serves as the standard language to manage data in a relational database. SQL has two main advantages over other languages:

  1. Assesses many records with one command
  2. Eliminates the need to specify how to reach a record

Many database systems use SQL and have their own additional proprietary extensions that are only used on their system.
